SQL Server Developer / Engineer
Atrium EMEA are supporting a world-leading IT services client in their search for an experienced SQL Server Developer / Engineer to join a major technology and cyber delivery programme within a leading UK financial services organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong backend-focused engineer with experience across SQL development, automation, DevOps, and enterprise engineering environments.
To be considered, you must have recent financial services experience.
Location: Cheshire (2 days per week onsite is mandatory)
Rate: £400-£430 per day (Inside IR35)
Contract: Initial 6-12 month contract
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
* Support the delivery and engineering of enterprise SQL and backend solutions within a large-scale banking environment.
* Develop and maintain solutions using C#, PowerShell, WebAPI, and SQL technologies.
* Deliver automation, scripting, and integration capabilities across infrastructure and engineering platforms.
* Work closely with engineering, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to enhance platform stability and delivery capability.
* Support API and JSON-based integrations across internal services and applications.
* Adhere to the clients standards for change control, governance, database security, and engineering best practices.
* Contribute to CI/CD and DevOps processes using tools such as Git and Jenkins.
* Produce and maintain technical documentation across all aspects of the solution lifecycle.
* Collaborate within Agile delivery teams to support continuous improvement and rapid delivery.
* Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Experience
* Strong commercial experience as a SQL Developer, SQL Engineer, Backend Developer, or similar engineering role.
* Expert-level knowledge of:
o C#
o PowerShell scripting
o MSSQL / SQL Server
o JSON/API interfaces
o WebAPI development
o Solution development and design
* Strong experience with backend development and relational database technologies.
* Experience working within DevOps and Agile delivery environments.
* Strong understanding of SDLC/SDLB processes and engineering best practices.
* Experience using Git, Jenkins, Confluence, and related tooling.
* Strong understanding of coding practices, automation, and data structures/algorithms.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Experience
* Experience with:
o MongoDB
o Kafka integrations
o Ansible (AAP 2.4/2.5)
o AI-assisted development tooling such as GitLab Duo or Claude Code
* Previous experience within financial services, banking, or highly regulated environments.
* Exposure to infrastructure engineering or cyber/security-focused programmes.
* Experience supporting enterprise-scale transformation or engineering initiatives.
